Elizabeth Warren is Coming to Utah
Presidential candidate, Elizabeth Warren, is making a campaign stop in Salt Lake City this week as part of her campaign. Ahead of her visit, her campaign published an article articulating her vision for Utah and the rest of the western states.
Here are some of the highlights:
… on my first day as president, I will sign an executive order that says no more drilling — a total moratorium on all new fossil fuel leases, including for drilling offshore and on public lands.
In other words she wants to unilaterally shut down the oil and gas industry in our state.
[I’ll] reinstitute the clean water rule to protect our lakes, rivers, and streams, and the drinking water they provide.
In other words, she wants to reinstate the Obama Administration’s radical interpretation of the the Clean Water Act, that gave the EPA regulatory authority over things like dry washes and puddles under the premise that these somehow constitute “navigable waterways.”
As president, I will use my authorities under the Antiquities Act to restore protections to both monuments and any other national monuments targeted by this Administration.
President Trump did the right thing when he shrunk the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. Every acre that was part of these national monuments is still managed by the Bureau or Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, or the State of Utah. This means every acre, every artifact, and every natural resource is still protected by dozens of federal and state laws and countless regulations.
Senator Warren’s vision for the West is nothing more than a theft of America’s natural resources and an assault on the economic foundation of rural western communities. It is no accident that she is holding her campaign event at a trendy downtown venue in Salt Lake City where she can connect with other urban elites who think the only purpose rural Utah communities should serve is to provide tourism amenities to them when they want to hike a popular trail in a national park.
Amidst the high-minded rhetoric of Senator Warren’s vision for Utah, she manages to leave out more pragmatic things – like logistics. I’m genuinely curious how she plans to travel to Utah. Given her stated hostility to the fossil fuel industry and her plans to unilaterally shut this industry down in Utah, I can’t imagine she would possibly come by plane.

p.s. This is only the first volley from liberal presidential candidates as they compete to see who can do the most damage to rural communities in the West by restricting access to our a land and wiping out our way of life. I will continue to do everything I can to protect rural Utahns from this onslaught of nonsense.
